Piriformis syndrome, also known as false sciatica, may or may not include radiation down the leg. Most commonly, a contracture of the piriformis muscle (or any of the rotators of the hip, including the obturator, gemmli and quadratus femoris). Other commonly involved structures include the sacroiliac loint, gluteal muscles, sacrotuberous ligament and iliofemoral ligament.
A combined approach of chiropractic, Active Release Technique, stretching and strengthening exercises typically lead to a quick resolution of symptoms.
