While cycling is hailed due to its “low impact” forces, numerous pains, symptoms and injuries can result. Common causes are overuse injuries, crashes, improper bike fit and range of motion and strength imbalances.
The most common cycling related conditions we see in our office are fractures from crashes, iliotibial band syndrome, tunnel of Guyon compression (cyclists Palsy), ulnar nerve compression at flexor carpi ulnaris, and neck and back pain. With the exception of fractures and abrasions, each of these conditions is fairly simple to treat. Using a combined approach of strengthening weak structures, stretching exercises, Active Release Technique and bike fit modifications, a quick resolution of pain is very typical.
